Celebrating Youths:Beyond The Classroom.

My  story is of a lady I have never met,but I promise to look for her,because she is passionate about something my mother loves,Scouting, and though mum is retired,she still is a member, and one of the assessors,My mum is the apple of my eye,so anything she loves,is engraved in ,my heart,

This young lady is Lillian Mandilla 32yrs of age born and bred in Bungoma County.She is a wife and a mother of two.

Being a first born and having been orphaned at the age of 10, she was faced with the task of beating all odds to go through school and also ensure her five siblings have acquired an education which they all have upto college level.

Lillian went to Masindu Primary school,Lugulu Girls High School  where  she was the Senior games prefect and later on  joined  Kenyatta University where she served as  a Student leader under KUSA 2009/2010.

She has taught in various schools one being ACK St Barthlomew  where her mean score remained remained since 2011 and was the best in voi subcounty in the kcse exam of 2011.
Currently she is a teacher at Chala Secondary School.
Lillian has mentored students in football(county twice,souts (regional)and drama(national)
She has presented award winning poems in the 2016 county drama festivals and the recently concluded World Environment day  competitions,
She has founded Inua Dada Foundation - chala sec chapter ,a programme which ensures that girls get pads to stay in school that's so noble right?I just love her.

She has  presented an advert at the National Drama Festivals on reusable sanitary towels
and also founded the Chala Sec Amani Club in 2016.

She has participated in various tree planting activities in Mahandakini dispensary,along river lumi and the school.
and has organised and participated in various clean up exercises like slashing of chala dispensary and clean up of taveta town (I hope she invites me to one soon).


Lilian has been engaged in various student mentorship programmes at schools,ie kivukoni primary (My dad once taught this school-it used to be second after Lotima Primary the un beaten) and bishop njenga secondary School.
She has been a speaker in the Ack chala education day in 2014 and PCEA taveta.
Lilian is a member of YALI and has completed courses on women empowerment and has completed courses with the UNDP-EU joint task force.
This go getter is a Knec examiner and has also been privileged to invigilate and supervise Kcse exams for so many years.

She has also worked as a trainer of adult scouts, and heeeee, listen to this,is a trained football referee -i am planning a tournament girl,you are being my referee.
She has been privileged to serve the school in so many capacities and she is currently the acting deputy principal-Oh God,at 32,this is amazing, I am challenged.
She serves the subcounty as Assistant Scouts Commissioner in charge of Youth Programme-Taveta, the Secretary Drama- Taveta .
At the county level,she is a nominated woman representative taveta subcounty in the Taita taveta branch Kuppet.
Woooow,quite a go getter right?
Who said a teachers job is in the classroom?teachers too are bringing change,I celebrate you teachers.

Huuuuuh, catching some breathe here,this girl is a handful,I totally admire her.
Lillian, you and I know how we met,and the first word i told you is I LOVE YOU, YOU ARE BOLD and true to my words, you are BOLD.

Celebrating Youths:A Rare Gem

Patricia Chao Mwashighadi born 27 years ago in a village called Majengo Bura Station is a lady i have admired her work from a far,today, i thank God i have a chance to get to know her.
Patricia went to Ngami Secondary School then to Mt Kenya University where dhe did her bachelor in education Arts in History and  Kiswahili.
She is passionate about helping the needy in society most especially the orphans and elderly which she has done alot.
She mentors school children trust me,I have seen her tagged on several events and I still have that urge of listening to her speak,it's on my bucket list.
 She is on the forefront in championing the youth agenda,she creates awareness on Drug and substance abuse and has been a peace champion among the youth in the county especially in her subcounty Mwatate,she Currently she has initiated the Mwatate Constituency Youth CBO and very soon it will start its activities,I cant wait to know what they are,but you and I have to wait, we will get to know soon.

Patricia one of those young women who are voices against Gender based violence,a vice she is passionate in fighting against and has in one way or another helped women get justice. Patricia also does health education on young women association in Mwatate.
Now i know Patricia as a football enthusiast, she has helped so many football clubs with balls and other sports gear and has been an executive of Mwatate United FC since its inception in 2011 while playing at district level and today the team is on the National Division 1.
Oh i forgot to say,the young beautiful lady is a  political activist, she champions the youth agenda in ODM and now with building bridges she has partnered with her  Jubilee counterpart and are working on something good for the good of the youth,Bringing them together and pushing the youth agenda forward.

Celebrating Youths:He is Turning Dreams to Reality.

Today I will celebrate several youths and I start with one person that I have personally worked with, a man so so passionate of his community that it amazes me.

George Kimboi

His Name is George Kimboi, born and bred in Challa ward, Taveta Subcounty.He is a husband and a father to a beautiful girl Aleena.

Kimboi is The ward administrator, Mahoo Ward, Taita Taveta County but wait,away from just being a ward administrator,he has gone out of his way and is totally making change in his community,This guy is giving hope to so many youths,students,mothers etc

If you saw some situations he is sometimes in,but still would never miss a meeting at furthest part of Taveta just to touch a life,admirable. 

He is a graduate Graduate holding Bsc Environmental Science degree from Egerton University I guess his passion for the environment.

I give you my view on this guy, When I just joined the county in 2015, I was looking at things, and I was shocked, especially how education in my sub county was taken fore granted, students were doing poorly, I was all over trying to do something, and I noticed Kimboi had the same passion I had, in education and the youth, we clicked and that’s how we became working partners. Whenever he had a ward baraza, we would go together and do sensitization.

That’s how we became The brains behind the formation of The Taveta Professionals, that was formed in February 2017and is aimed at bringing together professionals from the local community (Taveta) to give back, nurture, mentor the upcoming generation thru education and through support of different professionals, it was a success, so many wins for the team, He thus is one of the coordinators of this winning team of professionals.

Allow me mention the wins here:The Taveta professionals in partnership with world vision has a group of mentors who have gone to all schools in Mata ward, Bomeni ward, Mboghoni ward and Mahoo ward doing mentorship.The taveta professionals has also done capacity building for teachers from Riata,Kitobo,Madarasani and Mrabani Primaries in partnership with world vision. The Taveta professionals has done expansive sensitization on education in Barazas, meetings, parents days etcThe Taveta professionals has taken very needy students to school through member fundraising. The Taveta professionals in Partnership with the National Cohesion and integration commission has formed Amani clubs in both primary and secondary schools in Taveta to foster peace and cohesion among communities through academic and extracurricular activities.

Kimboi has worked with Sauti ya wanawake in so many capacities especially being a male champion who is helping in the fight against gender based violence which is rampant in our County.

George Kimboi has also trained in different courses ;Social protection course at ms tcdc, Gender responsive public service course at ms tcdc, psychological first aid training by world vision,  Empowered world view TOT by world vision, leadership & integrity  by CIT, County budget cycle at IBP, Best practice in Public service delivery & culture reform program by Kenya School of Governance,  ToT Art of Hosting methodologies by CISP, HIV/Aids peer educators training by Kenya red cross, conflict resolution course by center for conflict resolution kenya and he has a Gold Award on the The President's Award Scheme.

Kimboi has trained and is Training community groups on empowered world view model, He has trained the youth, women groups, teachers and the now amazing bit is he has been training and working on reforming local brewers.

Together with him we have done a lot of trainings community members on c-change, It has been amazing experience working with him.

Kimboi my dear friend, I want you to know that I appreciate you, and the community totally appreciates you too, you are doing an amazing job for our people in Taveta, Thanks for being my amazing working partner, the sober one among us, I say sober because sometimes we get disappointed and I want to walk out, but he calmly reminds me that not all doors you knock will be opened.

By the way, if there is a person that hates the limelight, it is him, he does things chini ya maji, he gets things done but does not want anyone to know its him, Sorry for unveiling you my brother, I just had to.

Oh and dont be deceived by his straight face (He rarely laughs) he is a very out going person,so easy to work with.

Celebrating Youths: A Beauty with Brains.

Hallo everyone, I know it has been long, but just pardon me,I am back, I believe this time forever.Now the national youth week just started yesterday and I want us to celebrate the youths, young people that are bringing change in our society and with me, I specifically celebrate those from my county,Taita Taveta.

I start off with a lady I truly admire,a lady who is a go getter,I just admire her zeal and passion in community work,and oh yes, this is none other than Milka Righa a 32 year old mother and wife.

She is a public servant,an influencer,a public speaker, mentor and a person who is passionate about transformation of communities;protection of children, empowerment of youth and women and citizen participation.

Milka holds a a Bed (First class hons) from Kenyatta university;she has just completed her master of arts (gender,education and international development) at one of the world’s renowned universities, university college London (UCL) under a commonwealth scholarship and also completing her MBA-Strategic Management at Taita Taveta University.

You are probably asking more about this gem, yes just relax,she is the the head of Hansard Department of the County Assembly of Taita Taveta.
She is also the Founder and Executive director of Happy Children Initiative, a local CBO on children’s rights and empowerment of young people. Through the CBO she has managed to touch children’s lives; helped sick children to get medication; put school dropouts back to school; assisted children who have been abused and ran campaigns against child abuse. as CEO she has also given children in children’s homes life experiences outside the homes by taking them on road trips and game drives.

Milka has also mentored children in many schools as well as partnered with other people and organizations to offer youth mentorship and trainings within the County.

Milka Righa also founded the Taita Taveta Professional Women’s Forum this year, which she chairs an Association whose main objective is to empower the women of Taita Taveta County through its 3 pillars- networking, mentorship and Empowerment.

For several months now,Milka has embarked on youth trainings in several wards within the county.
Milka is a YALI East Africa Fellow and an alumnus of the Hague Academy for Local Governance, Netherlands, where she underwent training on Citizen Participation and Inclusive Governance in March this year, through the Talent for Governance Scholarship.one is appreciating you girl,i am,and some thousand others,you are inspiring.
